The E.J. Sprague Co. was established in 1986 in North East, MD. While Ed Sprague was traveling as a manufacturer’s representative for the fastener industry, his customers in Cecil and Harford County, Maryland kept asking him if he could supply them with toilet tissue and paper towels. So, he found a supplier and there started the E.J. Sprague Co., seller of janitorial supplies and cleaning chemicals.
We moved the company to Elkton, MD and as we expanded our customer base, we expanded our product base to meet our customers’ needs. Along the way we took crash courses in trash liners, who knew there were so many types and sizes! cleaning chemicals, with all the SDS sheets! and floor machines, with Betty and Ed landing on their bottoms more than once! But all those adventures resulted in the company being better able to provide better service for our customers.
With the addition of disposable food service items, the product list became a bit overwhelming for one of our customers and we were asked if we could manage this inventory for him. We, of course, said yes, and we began our Vendor Managed Inventory Program which spread to many of our customers as soon as they heard about it.
Now, the E.J. Sprague Co. has evolved into a full service janitorial and disposable food service supply company providing free delivery with no minimum order and a free vendor managed inventory program to companies within a 50-mile radius of our Elkton office. For over 30 years providing the best customer service has been our guiding principle. Today we continue to grow in product knowledge and provide the best support for our customer’s needs.
